Software Engineer

Location: In-person (Calgary, AB)

Job Type: Full-Time

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Software Engineer/Developer to join our team as we prepare to commercially launch our innovative software product. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in software development and a passion for creating high-quality, efficient solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Develop, write, and maintain clean, efficient, and high-quality code following best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement robust software solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing software to ensure optimal performance.
  • Utilize version control software for efficient code management.
  • Deploy and manage applications in production environments.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of professional experience in software development.
  • Proficiency in C++ (preferably C++03/C++11 standard).
  • Strong knowledge of Python 2/3.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency in Linux & Windows environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and generative AI.
  • Understanding of how interpreted languages work under the hood.
  • Experience with AWS for cloud-related activities.
  • Knowledge of Docker for containerization.
  • Background in Civil Engineering/Cost Estimation (a plus).

We are seeking a Senior Cost Estimator to join our team as we prepare to launch a groundbreaking capital cost estimating software product. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive, entrepreneurial spirit and a deep understanding of how software can transform capital cost estimating.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare thorough and timely cost analyses for projects.
  • Provide technical services and support to customers, ensuring their success with our software.
  • Attend bid meetings, develop bid strategies, and execute them effectively.
  • Analyze project proposals to prepare accurate budgets and cost estimates.
  • Gather, update, and review historical cost data to improve estimating accuracy.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to drive continuous improvement and innovation in cost estimating solutions.
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities to drive company growth.
  • Represent SES at client and industry events to promote our software and expertise.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in capital cost estimating, particularly in piping and fabrication.
  • Experience using capital cost estimating software (a strong asset).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical, business, and administrative concepts effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with software-driven estimating tools and their application in capital projects.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in cost estimating.
  • Experience in business development or securing new opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have a proactive, entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for driving growth through strategic sales and marketing efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive sales and marketing strategies to achieve business objectives.
  • Identify new business opportunities through market research, networking, and proactive outreach.
  • Propose and execute marketing initiatives, including representing SES at client and industry events to promote our software and services.
  • Update and maintain the company website and marketing materials to ensure a strong brand presence.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to drive continuous improvement and innovation in cost estimating solutions.
  • Prepare and present regular sales, forecast, and market analysis reports to senior management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of proven experience in business development/sales, preferably in capital cost estimating or related industries.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical and business concepts clearly and effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineering background or familiarity with capital cost estimating software (a strong asset)
  • Experience in software sales or SaaS marketing.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing strategies and tools.
